COTUR delivered material and equipment to the nursery at the José Macamo General Hospital in Maputo, as part of its social responsibility policy. Milk for newborns, feeding bottles, an electric sterilizer, caps, sheets for cribs, among other things, were delivered as part of a direct support measure for the teams and the babies.
COTUR formalized the delivery of material and equipment to the nursery of the José Macamo General Hospital (HGM), at a session attended by the hospital's management.
The contribution includes consumables and devices for immediate use - milk for newborns, bottles, an electric sterilizer, caps, crib sheets, an alcohol dispenser and gowns for parents - chosen in conjunction with the unit to cover the service's operational needs. The company stresses that the action is part of its long-term commitment to health and education projects, in line with public priorities.
“This support focuses on the essentials: what shortens the time between need and response in the nursery, in coordination with the clinical team. That's where the logistics make a difference for the families and the service,” said advisor Dr. Nasser Usta, representing COTUR's PCA, Dr. Noor-Momade.
Maputo is home to the country's largest neonatal unit at Maputo Central Hospital (HCM), a national reference and training center, in an ecosystem where general units - such as HGM - are part of the maternal and child care network and receive support from partners to strengthen capacity. In 2021, the UN/UNICEF highlighted HCM as the largest neonatal unit, documenting investments in equipment, training and integration of services, and including Hospital Geral José Macamo among the hospitals supported in the Greater Maputo region. These milestones show the importance of equipping general hospital nurseries with practical day-to-day resources.
At the same time, the public agenda has been strengthening the neonatal infrastructure in the capital, with work underway for a new neonatology unit at the HCM by 2027, expanding the link between neonatology, maternity and pediatrics.
The material will be integrated into the nursery circuits in accordance with the hospital's internal procedures.
COTUR will maintain coordination with HGM management to monitor needs and ensure predictability in the replenishment of critical consumables.
