for Sustainable Development.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fb9bddf elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"fb9bddf\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"spacer.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer\">\n\t\t\t<div data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>As a knowledge partner of India's G20 Presidency, the UNWTO (World Tourism Organization) presented the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.e-unwto.org\/doi\/10.18111\/9789284424443\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Goa's Roadmap for Tourism as a Vehicle to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals<\/a> at the meeting of tourism ministers from the world's leading economies.<\/p><h5><b>A roadmap for people and planet\u00a0<\/b><\/h5><p>Halfway between the launch of the 2030 Agenda in 2015 and the deadline for achieving it, UNWTO has called on G20 Tourism Ministers to lead the sector's contribution to accelerating progress towards the 17 SDGs. The Goa Roadmap, developed with the Tourism Working Group, is based on the five priority areas of India's G20 Presidency:<\/p><p>The Goa Roadmap for Tourism as a Vehicle to Achieve the SDGs offers the G20 economies a proposed action plan to lead the way towards a better future for all:\u00a0<\/p><ul><li><b>Green Tourism<\/b>Recognizing the critical need to work towards climate action and environmental protection, as well as related international cooperation, the Goa Roadmap incorporates recommended actions and good practices from G20 economies and guest countries on issues such as financing, sustainable infrastructure and resource management, integration of circular approaches in the tourism value chain, and involvement of visitors as key actors in sustainability.\u00a0<\/li><li><b>Digitization<\/b>The Roadmap made clear the wide-ranging benefits of supporting companies and destinations in adopting digitalization, including increasing productivity, improving infrastructure management and providing a safer and more efficient experience for visitors.\u00a0<\/li><li><b>Skills<\/b>Reflecting one of the UNWTO's main priorities for the sector, the Roadmap emphasizes the need to provide skills to tourism workers, especially young people and women, in line with employers' demands, in order to future-proof tourism jobs and make the sector more attractive as a career.\u00a0<\/li><li><b>Tourism for Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs)<\/b>With Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) accounting for 80% of all tourism businesses worldwide, the Roadmap emphasizes the importance of public policies and public-private partnerships to address key challenges such as financing, marketing, skills gaps and market access in order to support MSMEs in the digital and sustainable transition.\u00a0<\/li><li><b>Destination Management<\/b>The Roadmap presents a set of proposed actions to create a holistic approach to destination management, strengthening public-private-community partnerships and promoting a comprehensive government approach. It also shares examples of innovative programs among G20 countries and guests. UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili said: \u201cAs tourism recovers, approaching pre-pandemic levels, we must ensure that the recovery is sustainable, inclusive and resilient. The Goa Roadmap for Tourism as a Vehicle to Achieve the SDGs offers G20 economies a proposed action plan to lead the way towards a better future for all.\u201d.<\/li><\/ul><p>Shri G. Kishan Reddy, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Development, North Eastern Region of India, added: \u201cTourism can be instrumental in addressing many challenges faced by our societies, while transforming itself to address their socio-economic impacts. Working together on a common roadmap for recovery and long-term sustainability will unlock its immense potential to fulfill the SDGs.\u201d.<\/p><h5><b>Reducing waste and increasing circularity<\/b>\u00a0<\/h5><p>On this occasion, the UNWTO and the United Nations Environment Program held the side event \u201cTowards a circular economy for plastics in tourism - the Global Plastics in Tourism Initiative\u201d, in association with the Indian Ministry of Tourism.<\/p><ul><li>A\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unwto.org\/sustainable-development\/global-tourism-plastics-initiative\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Global Plastics in Tourism Initiative<\/a>\u00a0offers a common vision for a circular economy of plastics in tourism. The side event provided practical guidance to delegates and participants on how to deal with plastic pollution in tourism operations.\u00a0<\/li><li>Participants included representatives from countries (India, Indonesia), accommodation companies (ITC Hotels, Leela Palaces Hotels &amp; Resorts, The Indian Hotels Company Limited) and aviation (International Air Transport Association, IATA).\u00a0<\/li><li>India's Central Nodal Agency for Sustainable Tourism, a technical agency of the Ministry of Tourism, has become a signatory to the Global Initiative on Plastics in Tourism, along with the Government of Punjab and the Responsible Tourism Society of India.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul><h5><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif;\"><b>UNWTO, tourism and the G20<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5><ul><li><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif;\">The G20 economies account for around 85% of global GDP, more than 75% of global trade and around two-thirds of the world's population.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif;\">In 2022, the G20 received 74% of international tourists and 73% of tourism exports worldwide.
